Trump University Scam Is Like A Herpes Outbreak For Donald Trump. The Scandal Is A Source Of Extreme Pain That Flares Up At Inopportune Times And Never Ends

The Trump University scam seems like it is afflicting Donald Trump like a raging case of Herpes. As extremely painful developments in the lawsuits against the billionaire flare up at inopportune times and never go away. 

As soon as Trump University opened it was accused of being a scam. The state of New York put them on notice. The State found Trump University was not licensed to call itself a university. As a result, Trump was forced to changed the name to the Trump Entrepreneur Institute in 2010. Trump and his partner Mark Sexton also agreed to cease offering “courses” in the state of New York.

NY AG Schneiderman Sues Trump

New York AG Eric Schneiderman filed a $40 million dollar lawsuit against Donald Trump in August 2013. Schneiderman claims Trump University was a scam. Schneiderman’s lawsuit also alleges the Trump University scam promised to make students rich. Trump University did the opposite. It steered them into expensive and mostly useless seminars. Trump University promised students apprenticeships that were never delivered.

Schneiderman also claims that the Trump University scam bilked up to $35,000 from nearly all of the 5,000 students. Students were also promised meetings with Donald Trump. Yet, all they received was their picture taken in front of a life-size cardboard cut out of the billionaire. 

Schneiderman said of the Trump University scam:

Mr. Trump personally appeared in advertisements making false promises to convince people to spend tens of thousands of dollars they couldn’t afford. No one, no matter how rich or famous they are, has a right to scam hardworking New Yorkers. Anyone who does should expect to be held accountable.

Trump University Was A Get Rich Quick Scheme

In addition, Schneiderman’s Trump University scam lawsuit also alleges that Trump University advertised free workshops taught by instructors handpicked by Donald Trump. Trump never picked the instructors.

The Trump University manual tells instructors not to inform consumers, “think three days will be enough to make them successful,”

Consumers were also given a sales pitch for “Trump Elite.” Trump Elite was a mentoring program that cost $10,000 to $35,000. Consumers were promised individual instruction until they made their first deal. Participants were urged to extend the limit on their credit cards for real estate deals. Then used the credit to pay for the Trump Elite programs. Several people compared them to the get-rich-quick schemes. The programs were like the programs that Tom Vu used to pitch on late-night television.

Trump Tries To Turn Table On Schneiderman

Trump’s lawyer Michael D. Cohen claimed Schneiderman’s lawsuit was really about the AG not being happy with Trump’s contribution to his re-election campaign.

The attorney general has been angry because he felt that Mr. Trump should have done more for him in terms of fundraising.

Trump Buys Off Florida AG Pam Bondi 

Former Florida AG Bill McCollum launched an investigation into Trump University. Several of the complaints included in Schneiderman’s lawsuit were also from Florida resident. Current Florida AG Pam Bondi announced she was launching an investigation into Trump Institute. She also claimed she was also possibly pursuing litigation against Trump in Florida. She also stated Florida would join New York in a multi-state legal action.

Donald Trump gave a $25,000 donation to Bondi’s 2014 re-election campaign committee and the Florida case disappeared. This is four days after Bondi announced she was launching an investigation.

Trump University Depositions Unsealed

Donald Trump and Mark Sexton also face three class action lawsuits. They also allege Trump University was a scam. 

Judge Gonzalo Curiel is presiding over a case filed in 2010. Tarla Makaeff filed one of the class action lawsuits in California. Makaeff’s lawsuit also accuses Trump of misleading students at the university with classes that resembled infomercials. Makaeff also alleges Trump University constantly pressuring students to buy more and failing to deliver. 

Ronald Schnackenberg was a former salesman for Trump University. He called Trump University a “fraudulent scheme.”

Schnackenberg recounted how he was reprimanded because he was not pushing a financially struggling couple hard enough. Schnackenberg refused to sign the couple up for a $35,000 real estate class. Consequently, he concluded that it would endanger their economic future. 

Schnackenberg wrote in his testimony:

 I believe that Trump University was a fraudulent scheme and that it preyed upon the elderly and uneducated to separate them from their money.
