Ally Financial Denied White Iraq War Hero A Promotion In Favor Of Hiring An Inexperienced Greeter From Walmart
Chris Smith says Ally Financial ignored his 20 years’ experience in military intelligence work. In turn they gave the job he wanted to an ex-Walmart greeter because she was a woman.
Iraq War Veteran Chris Smith passed over a white Iraq war hero so they could hire an inexperienced Walmart greeter. Now, Smith is suing the bank. The lawsuit alleges he was denied a promotion because of the bank’s aggressive woke agenda. Ally Bank hired a woman who was a former Greeter at Walmart
He got a junior role in the North Carolina office. Ally managers later sidelined Smith out of opposition to “white supremacy.”
Ally Financial allegedly mistreated Smith by treating him unfairly. The mistreatment by Ally forced Smith to quit within weeks.
It’s the latest lawsuit from America First Legal. AFL is a campaign group led by former Trump administration official Stephen Miller. The group fights that diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) policies across the US.
DEI advocates say it helps get more women and minorities into colleges and workplaces. However, critics say it ends up hurting straight white men.
AFL lawyer Gene Hamilton told the media:
Ally Bank’s Woke Agenda Is On Trial
AFL filed the case in Federal Court in North Carolina on Tuesday.
Smith is a former Marine and Army intelligence officer who served in Iraq and Afghanistan. He has two decades of experience in security. He applied for three roles in Ally’s newly-created ‘threat division’ unit in 2023.
Ally Financial offered Smith the lowest-paying role as a security analyst. The position about about $75,000 a year.
Ally then hired Rachel Stuckey. Stuckey is a woman who had worked for the previous four years at Walmart.
Smith says Ally hired Stuckey because she was a woman. He alleges that the bank wanted to meet DEI targets.
Ally also hired a less-qualified black woman and a black man in senior analyst roles above Smith.
Smith says he faced further discrimination once started working at the bank’s Charlotte office.
Ally Bank management allegedly excluded Smith from training courses. Management also made Smith come into the office when others could work from home.
Court papers say Ally director Bruce Bellamy mistreated Smith
Bellamy said the bank’s gravest security threats were, white supremacists, anti-DEI groups, and anti-woke groups.
The lawsuit alleges Smith would disagree in meetings. Bellamy who is African-American took particular offense to a white male questioning his views.
Bellamy and Stuckey isolated Smith from other Ally employees and refused to credit him for his work product. They also imposed substantial obstacles on his ability to perform his job duties. Thus, harming his performance.
Lawsuit Says Ally Violated The Civil Rights Act
The 20-page lawsuit also says Ally violated the race and sex protections of the Civil Rights Act.
However, Ally has a tough DEI policy. The bank also says it works hard to build a ‘diverse and talented team.’
The case is part of a growing number of suits and filings against DEI practices. In June 2023, the US Supreme Court ended affirmative action in college admissions.
