Florida Cop Gabriel Albala Going To Federal Prison For 30 Months For Buying And Ogling Kiddie Porn On The Internet

Florida cop Gabriel Albala is going to federal prison for 30 months for possessing child pornography. The kiddie porn included images of children under age 12 engaged in sex acts. Albala will also have five years of supervised release after his release from prison. He must also register as a sex offender.

Albala worked as a police officer with the Boynton Beach Police Department for 13 years prior to his arrest. 

Law enforcement learned of Albala after they busted a kiddie porn peddler purchased child pornography from David A. Drake in late 2018. Drake’s records included transactions to Albala.

As a result, cops searched Albala’s home. They found a desktop computer in the bedroom of his Margate home that contained multiple images of children engaged in sexual activity. Law enforcement also found child pornography on Albala’s cellular telephone.

Consequently, Albala pleaded guilty to possessing the kiddie porn on January 17, 2020. 

U.S. Attorney Fajardo Orshan also commended the investigative efforts of the FBI. In particular, the FBI’s Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking Task Force. She also commends the Boynton Beach Police Department and Margate Police Department for their assistance. Special Assistant U.S. Attorney M. Kathleen Koontz prosecuted this case.  

The feds brought this case as part of Project Safe Childhood. Project Safe Childhood is a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. It was launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice. 

The initiative is led by United States Attorneys’ Offices and the Criminal Division’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section (CEOS). Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to better locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet.
