The Florida Bar Launches An Investigation Against Romspen Attorney Christian Poland For Practicing Law In Florida Without A License

The Florida Bar has launched an investigation into alleged unlicensed practice of law by Romspen attorney Christian Poland.

Poland is representing troubled Canadian commercial lender Romspen in a multi-million dollar frivolous lawsuit SLAPP lawsuit against MFI-Miami.

Romspen filed suit against MFI-Miami in June 2023 in federal court in West Palm Beach for defamation over unflattering but truthful and cited articles posted on MFI-Miami.com.

MFI-Miami’s CEO filed the Bar complaint several weeks ago.

Here’s background on the case before we detail what Christian Poland did that started the investigation by the Florida Bar.

Christian Poland is a Chicago area bible thumping Christian who’s a combination of Roy Cohn and Saul Goodman from Breaking Bad.

Poland attends Wheaton Bible Church which appears to be a Christian Nationalist church. He is also a partner at the Chicago office of Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner. Poland IS NOT a licensed Florida attorney.

Poland’s Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner colleague Kevin Arocha (FL Bar #1019330) invited him into the case on a Pro Hac Vice.

Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner’s main job these days is to be Romspen’s main fixers in the U.S.

However, from what we can tell, they are not doing a very job of it. In all honesty, they’ve made a pig’s breakfast out of all Romspen’s U.S. litigation. Of course, this has only worsened Romspen’s already worrisome financial situation.

It’s estimated Romspen has paid Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner close to ten million dollars to represent them in nearly a dozen cases in the U.S. Yet, Romspen hasn’t seen any reward. Is Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner using Romspen as a cash cow and milking them for fees? It appears they may be doing exactly that.

Controversy arose for the Chicago lawyer in March 2024. Arocha, Poland’s Pro Hac Vice sponsor, left BCLP and this case under very mysterious circumstances.

Arocha’s Departure Nullifies Poland’s Pro Hac Vice

Arocha’s departure nullified Poland’s Pro Hac Vice representation and no one ever renewed it. This is clearly a violation of Federal Court rules of the Southern District:

Local Rule 4 (b) states:

RULE4. APPEARANCES

(b) Appearance Pro Hac Vice….

A pro hac vice motion shall conform to the form provided for these purposes on the Court’s website and designate at least one member of the bar of this Court who is authorized to file through the Court’s electronic filing system, with whom the Court and opposing counsel may readily communicate regarding the conduct of the case, upon whom filings shall be served, and who shall be required to electronically file and serve all documents and things that may be filed and served electronically, and who shall be responsible for filing and serving documents in compliance with the CM/ECF Administrative See Section 2B of the CM/ECF Administrative Procedures. The pro hac vice motion must be accompanied by a written statement consenting to the designation, and the address and telephone number of the named designee(s). Upon written motion and for good cause shown the Court may waive or modify the requirements of such designation.

An attorney admitted pro hac vice for one or more parties may appear on behalf of additional parties in the same case by filing a Notice of Appearance Pro Hac Vice. No additional appearance fee is The Notice must state that all information provided in support of the initial pro hac vice motion remains current and correct, including the sponsoring co-counsel. If any such information has changed since the filing of the initial pro hac vice motion, the attorney may not use the notice procedure set forth herein and must instead repeat the process described in paragraphs (1) and (3) above. Southern District of Florida Local Rule 4(b).

Poland’s bio on the BCLP website indicates he’s a seasoned federal litigator. So, he really has no excuse for violating federal court rules.

Poland Also Violated Florida Bar Rules

On top of it he also violated Florida Bar rules for Unlicensed Practice of Law by issuing subpoenas. A non-Florida attorney does not have the authority to issue subpoenas in the state of Florida. Doing so constitutes unlicensed practice of law.

Rule 45(a)(3) and Florida Bar Rule 4-5.5(8) state that only an attorney authorized to practice in the court where the subpoena is issued may issue and sign a subpoena. Otherwise, the clerk of court must issue the subpoena.

Rule 45(a)(3) is clear on this:

The clerk must issue a subpoena, signed but otherwise in blank, to a party who requests it. That party must complete it before service. An attorney also may issue and sign a subpoena if the attorney is authorized to practice in the issuing court.

Florida Bar Rule 4-5.5(b)2:

hold out to the public or otherwise represent that the lawyer is admitted to practice law in Florida.

Florida Bar Rule 4-5.5(b)3:

appear in court, before an administrative agency, or before any other tribunal unless authorized to do so by the court, administrative agency, or tribunal pursuant to the applicable rules of the court, administrative agency, or tribunal.

On December 4th, the Florida Bar confirmed they were launching an investigation into the allegations of Christian Poland practicing law in Florida without a license. MFI-Miami has also forwarded a copy of the complaint and the letter confirming the investigation to the Illinois State Bar.

Romspen Attorney Christian Poland Is Also A Textbook Misogynist

Christian Poland is obviously your typical dominating evangelical Christian misogynist. You know, the type that expects women to know their place when dealing with men. He also doesn’t have a problem being an complete asshole to women especially female lawyers.

You can see it in the way he treats MFI-Miami’s fantastic team of female lawyers. He’s condescending and rude. Worst of all, he’s unprofessional and borderline psychotic.

He bombards them with 50 emails a day with most them coming in between 8pm-11pm at night. Then, he demands they respond to him immediately.

Poland has also emailed me at these late hours. This is highly unethical and could also get him disbarred.

Or Is His Wife Subservient?

Christian Poland may think his condescending misogyny attractive. It may be his wife Jennifer. She may find being subservient handmaiden like something out of The Handmaiden’s Tale makes her husband happy. Who knows?

After all, Jennifer did attend the same evangelical Christian college as the late Billy Graham.

Could There Be Troubles At Home?

If Christian Poland is sending out work emails at 10:30pm or 11pm, it’s a sign there are serious problems at home. Most people with a family stop accepting work calls after 6 or 7pm. 9:30 or 10pm husbands usually have wind down time with the missus.

Is Jennifer Poland depriving Christian of marital relations? It very well could be and that is why he sends late night emails. This could also explain why he is borderline psychotic.

After all, psychiatrists theorize that lack of intimate relations may be what triggered Luigi Mangioni to kill Brian Thompson.

Whatever his issues are, Romspen lawyer Christian Poland is not mentally well.
