Michigan Judicial Tenure Commission Investigating Judge Bradley Knoll For Coke And Alcohol Fueled Wife Beating Incident

The Michigan Judicial Tenure Commission has authorized two counts of complaints against Alcoholic and coke addict Judge Bradley Knoll. Police arrested Knoll for beating his wife in a drunken rage in December 2023.

The commission released the complaint on April 22, 2025. The complaint alleges Knoll violated several standards of conduct when he admittedly struck his wife in December 2023. The standards of conduct contains rules against irresponsible or improper conduct. It also contains rules regarding eroding public confidence in the integrity of the judiciary. In addition, it contains rules requiring judges to treat others with courtesy and respect. It also contains rules barring judges from breaking the law.

The complaint details how Knoll was arrested on Dec. 13, 2023. Apparently, the incident happened after his wife’s 12 year old grandson resisted getting ready for school. Knoll who had been drinking, “yelled at the boy and grabbed his face.”

As a result, the boy began crying. Knoll’s wife intervened, and Knoll “hit or slapped” her “face or head.”

Knoll has been a member of the State Bar of Michigan since 1978. He has been a judge for the 58th District Court since January 2003

Will The Judicial Tenure Commission Remove Judge Bradley Knoll From The Bench?

Police arrested Knoll and charged him with misdemeanor domestic violence. He pled guilty in March 2024. Knoll admitted in court that he struck his wife on the top of the head with a flat, open hand. The first count of the public complaint issued Tuesday centered on this admission.

The complaint’s second count alleges Knoll was disrespectful to police officers during his arrest. They allege a drunk Knoll threatened a police officer with “potential repercussions for false arrest.”

The count further alleges Knoll treated police officers with disrespect during an interview. The complaint also states Knoll shouted, “fuck you” to detectives at the completion of the interview.

Knoll’s current six-year term expires in December 2026. He is not eligible to serve another term. Michigan law requires judicial candidates be under the age of 70 to run for office. Knoll turned 70 in 2021.

Michigan law requires Knoll’s lawyer file an answer to the complaint within two weeks. The commission requires the answer contain a full and fair disclosure of all facts and circumstances pertaining to the allegations.

The Judicial Tenure Commission will petition the Michigan Supreme Court to appoint a master to preside over a hearing.

The Judicial Tenure Commission is an independent state agency. It can then recommend sanctions to the Michigan Supreme Court. Sanctions include censure, suspension with or without pay or removal of a judge.
