Court Sentences Former HGTV Reality Star Mr. Flip It To 4 Years In Prison. Judge Also Orders Him To Pay $10 MILLION To 11 Victims 

Former HGTV reality star A California judge has sentenced former HGTV star to Todd Hill to four years in prison for multiple counts of fraud. The court also ordered Todd Hill aka Mr. Flip It to pay nearly $10 million to his victims.

He will also serve 10 years of probation after the end of his prison sentence. 

The Santa Clara County DA says Hill was indicted in November 2019. An investigation showed that he had committed multiple frauds including swindling investors’ money.

On September 27, 2023, Hill pleaded guilty to grand theft against all victims and admitted to aggravated white-collar enhancements. 

Prosecutor Oanh Tran told  ABC7 that Hill’s multiple scams impacted 11 victims and 18 homes in the Silicon Valley.

Prosecutors Uncover The Scam By Former HGTV Reality Star

The DA’s Office said that Hill pocketed investor’s money that was meant to buy homes. However, he instead used it to fund his lavish lifestyle. 

Hill created false balance sheets and acquired loans using fraudulent information to hide the theft. 

The point was to purchase a home and remodel them and sell them for a profit. However, he would pocket the money and spend it on luxury items and partying.

Hill would then label it as construction costs.

Max Keech, one of Hill’s victims lost about $6 million. He said the scammer submitted fraudulent invoices. Keech also said Hill manipulated financial records to embezzle money from him.

Prosecutors further said one of the victims had given Hill $250,000 To remodel their home. remodeling. However, they found the property burned to the ground with no work completed.

According to court documents, most of the scams occurred in 2013. 

Flip It to Win It was a reality show on HGTV that featured ‘five teams of expert flippers’ who ‘bid against each other for abandoned houses’ that are then renovated and put on the market.

It aired for two season from 2013 to 2014.
