Bernie Madoff Corners The Market On Hot Chocolate At Butner Correctional Facility

Bernie Madoff has become a prison kingpin. He has gone from conning clueless trust fund babies to cornering the market on prison hot chocolate.

The 78-year-old fraudster bought all the Swiss Miss hot chocolate powder from the commissary. He sold it in the prison yard at a profit. Now prisoners have to go through Bernie Madoff if they want hot chocolate. Madoff also runs several other small businesses in the prison yard.

Steve Fishman told MarketWatch.com:

At one point, he cornered the hot chocolate market. He bought up every package of Swiss Miss from the commissary and sold it for a profit in the prison yard. Madoff monopolized hot chocolate! He made it so that, if you wanted any, you had to go through Bernie.

Steve Fishman has covered and conversed with Madoff for years and he now hosts an audio series named Ponzi Supernova. The series is built around Fishman’s hours of interviews with Bernie Madoff. The convicted fraudster discusses his crimes and his prison life in his own words. It also includes previously unpublished interviews with Madoff and law-enforcement agents.

Madoff enjoys a celebrity status at the Butner Correctional Facility due to his infamous Ponzi scheme. Madoff is serving a 150-year sentence for operating a $65 billion Ponzi scheme.

As Fishman points out:

He stole more money than anyone in history and to other thieves, this makes him a hero.

He also dispenses financial advice to other inmates. Fishman also states inmates are constantly coming to Madoff seeking financial advice.
