Jersey Shore Gavone Mike Sorrentino AKA The Situation Pleads Guilty To Tax Evasion

Jersey Shore Gavone Mike Sorrentino aka “The Situation” admitted today to violating federal tax laws. Sorrentino’s brother Marc also pleaded guilty to violating federal tax laws.

The Mike and Marc Sorrentino were charged in 2014. The brothers were also charged again last year with multiple counts related to nearly $9 million in income from the show.

Mike Sorrentino pleaded guilty to Count 13 of the superseding indictment which charges him with tax evasion. Marc Sorrentino pleaded guilty to Count 5 which charges him with aiding in the preparation of a false and fraudulent tax return. The brothers entered their guilty pleas before U.S. District Judge Susan D. Wigenton in Newark federal court.

U.S. Attorney Carpenito said:

What the defendants admitted to today is tantamount to stealing money from their fellow taxpayers. Celebrity status does not provide a free pass from this obligation.

Mike Sorrentino Received Over $9 Million Dollars For Appearing On MTV’s Jersey Shore

Sorrentino was a reality television personality who gained fame on MTV’s  “The Jersey Shore.”

Mike Sorrentino and his brother created businesses named MPS Entertainment LLC and Situation Nation Inc. The brothers wanted to take advantage of Mike’s celebrity status as “The Situation“ and acting like a Gavone.

The Sorrentino brothers concealed some of their income to avoid paying taxes. He also made cash deposits into bank accounts in amounts less than $10,000. Deposits under $10,000 do not come to the attention of the IRS. 

Marc Sorrentino also admitted that he willfully provided his accountants with false information for tax years 2010 through 2012.

In addition, Mike Sorrentino also admitted he earned taxable income. Marc Sorrentino also admitted to assisting his accountants in preparing his personal tax return for those years. As a result, Mike Sorrentino under-reported his total income and taxable income.

Mike Sorrentino faces a maximum penalty of five years in prison. Marc Sorrentino faces up to a maximum penalty of three years in prison. Both charges are also punishable by a potential $250,000 fine. Mike Sorrentino has a sentencing hearing scheduled for April 25, 2018.
