Venezuelans Flee Doral Florida Out Of Fear Of Mass Deportations

City Of Doral, Florida Sees Real Estate Values Plummet As Venezuelans Flee Doral Out Of Fear Of Mass Deportations

The city of Doral is the home to one of Donald Trump’s premier golf resorts. However, the city is now facing a loss of about 40% of it’s population and a major housing crash. All thanks to President Trump.

Doral is a city of 80,000 residents about 25 miles northwest of Miami. It has been experiencing a mass exodus of its Venezuelan immigrants which make up around 40% of its population.

Venezuelans are fleeing Doral in droves. They are leaving so quickly that they are leaving behind furniture and skipping out on rent. Some are fleeing in the dead of night to avoid encounters with federal agents.

The city is home to Trump National Doral Golf Club. The president owns the golf resort that charges membership fees up to $150,000. MFI-Miami wrote about this resort having a massive bed bug infestation in 2019.

Doral apartment vacancy rates have risen to 6.5% since Trump began his immigration crackdown.

That’s about 50% higher than the city’s surrounding municipalities which sit at 4.3%. Some buildings in the city are even seeing vacanies above 10%.

Venezuelans Fucked Up. They Trusted And Voted For Trump!

Leasing agents aren’t shy at pointing the finger. They say Trump is causing Venezuelans to flee South Florida.

Even Venezuelans with temporary legal status are leaving. They are are afraid ICE agents will snatch them up in the middle of the night.

Since retaking the White House in January, Trump has tried to strip Venezuelans of Temporary Protected Status. He has also canceled Bidern-era humanitarian immigration programs that allowed hundreds of thousands to live in the US.

President Trump’s immigration policy changes have taken away the legal status of many Doral residents.

As a result, those migrants are leaving in droves, with many opting to move back to Venezuela.

The Trump loving GOP  mayor of Doral, Christi Fraga admitted that fear of deportation is driving many away. Fraga still supports Trump even though the city’s revenue is plummeting and city inches toward a financial collapse.

Now, apartment owners in Doral are demanding to know a family’s immigration status before they rent apartments to them. That is because they want to know if they are under temporary permission to live in the US. If they are, they are just one court ruling from a rapid deportation.

The 1968 Fair Housing Act makes it illegal to discriminate against renters based on nationality or race. Thus, landlords are now adding a layer of legal complexity to the decision of apartment owners to turn Venezuelans away.

The data company CoStar Group says 70% of immigrants who have come to the US since 2010 are renters. Their exodus will have powerful negative impact on the rental market in South Florida.

The vast majority of Venezuelan voters in Doral are registered Republicans. Many Venezuelans living in the city supported Trump because they believed he would remove Maduro from power.

President of Venezuelans Persecuted in Political Exile, Antonio Colina told El Pais:

“The Venezuelan community voted for Trump to remove Maduro from power, not to remove Venezuelans from the United States.”
