Michigan Attorney General Charges The Wife Of Michigan State Senator Dan Lauwers With Embezzlement
Yesterday, Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel announced two felony charges against the wife of Michigan state Senator Dan Lauwers. The Michigan AG’s offices alleges Kellie Lauwers embezzled funds from the Yale Chamber of Commerce. As a result, prosecutors have charged Lauwers with one count of Embezzlement by an Agent or Servant. This is a 10-year felony. The Michigan AG also charged her with one count of Using a Computer to Commit a Crime. This is also a 10-year felony.
Lauwers served as the Yale Chamber of Commerce Treasurer from 2019 to February 2025. Prosecutors allege that during that time she embezzled $35,200 from the chamber. Michigan State Police investigated the matter.

Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel also said Chambers of commerce play an important role in supporting small businesses. They also strengthen local economies. Nessel also says her office remains committed to holding accountable those who embezzle funds meant to support these organizations.
Senator Dan Lauwers has yet to publicly comment on the charges. He has represented St. Clair County as a Republican in the Michigan Legislature for 13 years. This includes three terms in the House of Representatives. He is in his second term in the Senate.
