Banks Seized 367,000 Homes In 2025

Banks Seized 367,000 Homes In 2025. Experts Say Bank Seizures Expected To Double In 2026 As Housing Pain Spreads.

Banks Seized 367,000 HomesContrary to what the Trump Administration wants people to believe, the past year was extremely difficult for homeowners. US banks seized 367,000 homes in foreclosure in 2025. Experts warn that 2026 could be even more challenging.

ATTOM is reporting that foreclosures seizures rose 14% from a year earlier.

In total, banks seized 367,460 US properties in foreclosure in 2025.

Experts warn more homes may be seized in 2026. They say it may even double or triple the number of the 2025 foreclosures.

Thus, the outlook for the housing market and the wider economy looks increasingly bleak. In total, the US added only around 584,000 jobs in 2025. This makes it the weakest year for job growth outside a recession since 2003.

When foreclosures rise, you know what that means. Neighborhoods are flooded with discounted and bank-owned homes. As a result, this drags down nearby property values. For homeowners, that often means losing equity a rapid rate.

This dynamic is reviving fears of the financial crisis of 2008.

Americans are struggling to pay their mortgages and you know what that means? It means homeowners are cutting back on essentials like food, transportation, and healthcare. Asa result, this affordability crunch weighs on economic growth.

Foreclosures were most concentrated in a handful of states like Florida in 2025. Florida topping the list at one filing for every 230 homes. This is an unsettling sign in a state already grappling with soaring insurance and housing costs.

However, Delaware followed Florida with 240 housing units being seized in foreclosure in 2025. South Carolina wasn’t far behind at one in 242.
