Traverse City Area Politician Pleads Guilty To Soliciting Fake Crack Whores for Sex On The Internet

A Traverse City Area politician pleaded guilty last week to soliciting and engaging in prostitution. Grand Traverse County Commissioner Brad Jewett agreed to plea deal of one count of engaging in prostitution.
Engaging in prostitution is a misdemeanor under Michigan law. It comes with a maximum fine of $500 and up to 93 days in jail.
Police also charged Jewett with a second charge of using a computer to commit a crime. However, the court will drop that charge when he is sentenced.
Police arrested Jewett in June in an undercover sting operation in neighboring Leelanau County. The sting operation involved the Michigan Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force and Homeland Security. The Traverse City Police Department and the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office were also in volved in the sting operation..
Law enforcement placed ads online using a website known for advertising sexual services. Prosecutors have charged Jewett of soliciting prostitution through this advertisement.”
A county official is accused of showing up at a Michigan hotel after seeing a fake prostitute’s advertisement.
In June, members of a task force set up fake online ads on a website known for advertising sexual services.
Jewett set up a meeting with a prostitute through the fake ad. Law enforcement was waiting for him when he showed up at a Grand Traverse County hotel.
The 86th District Court in Traverse City held an arraignment hearing on September 3, 2024. Authorities charged him with a misdemeanor charge of engaging in prostitution. They also charged him with using a computer to commit a crime.
The county prosecutor asked the attorney general to review the case since Jewett is an elected official.
The scandal has derailed Jewett’s political career. Democrat Fern Spencer beat Jewett in the November 5th Election.
