Nassau County Names William Sparks Pro Bono Attorney of the Month
Nassau County continues to have the highest mortgage foreclosure rate in downstate New York. Currently, 1 in 950 homes is in foreclosure. To help Nassau residents with their foreclosure issues, attorney William J. A. Sparks of Merrick is always one of the first Nassau County Bar Association members to volunteer, whether for legal consultation clinics or representation in court.
For his outstanding commitment and long-time volunteer service, Nassau County Bar Association President Peter J. Mancuso has named him Pro Bono Attorney of the Month for December 2013.
Twice a month, NCBA offers free legal consultation clinics to any Nassau resident with issues involving mortgage foreclosure or as a result of Superstorm Sandy. Volunteer attorneys provide one-on-one consultations and referrals, and other resources are available in the room, including HUD-certified loan counselors, bankruptcy attorneys, and other assistance. Attorneys also volunteer to represent residents at daily court-mandated foreclosure conferences.
